Sustainability in the Suburbs - Transition to a Safe Climate Conference 2020 *POSTPONED*
Event description
Postponed until later in the year. A new date will be announced soon.
The annual Transition Banyule Network Conference is back in 2020 for the 3rd year running!
It will be a full day of speakers, networking and workshops, around four key themes, to help transform our communities, and transition us to a safe climate. The event will inspire and support Banyule residents to take action on climate change, feel like part of the solution, and find others to share the journey.
The four key workshop themes to initiate awesome outcomes are:
- Food
- Waste
- Community Resilience
- Sustainable Building
Which theme sparks your fancy? There are limited places for each topic, so make sure you choose and book early, to secure your spot in your preferred workshop! Our goal for the day is to have everyone leaving inspired, with a clear path on how you can make a difference.
This conference is brought to you by the Transition Banyule Network, auspiced by Montmorency Community Group, and with support from Banyule Council through an Environment Grant.
Run entirely by volunteers, to promote and support sustainable practices in our Banyule community, we have already had some great success stories:
- Banyule Council Declared a Climate Emergency in Oct 2019! Working with Banyule Council to achieve this Emergency Declaration was the resolution of attendees at the first conference in 2018, and was achieved in just 17 months after consistent engagement with local Councillors, Council Officers and the Transition community in Banyule. Congrats to all involved!
- As part of this Declaration, Banyule Council has committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2028, without the purchase of offsets, put $5M towards efforts towards this, and have released their Corporate Emissions Reduction Plan, with the Community Emissions Reduction Plan to soon follow.
- The Banyule Clean Energy Group (BCEG), which was catalysed during the first Conference in 2018, is continuing to grow strongly in participation and reach, and is rolling out a $70,000 state government grant, to install Solar on IDV in Macleod, among other projects.
- Sustainable Community Ivanhoe was started at the second conference in 2019 and has joined our network.
Parents – a full day program for primary school children and a kids activity program for pre-school children are available. Limited places, so book early!
