Sustainable Communities Tour
Event description
What does a sustainable community look like? We don't need to look into the distant future to see what is already being done right here, and now. This tour will take you around Wānaka exploring energy efficiency and sustainable building techniques in select homes and land developments, local food resilience and the impacts of urban life on biodiversity.
This guided tour will visit 15 locations around Wānaka, visiting people and places who make this town a thriving, sustainable community. Your opportunity to get a first-hand look and experience of what's going on already.
How does it work?
You will be placed in groups based on your preferred mode of travel - push bike, electric bike or electric vehicle*. The total distance is 26km circuit, so please be mindful that you are comfortable biking this distance. A form will be emailed to you after registration to determine groups. Guides will take groups along the route, using Wao's Sustainable Communities Map. The tour will start and finish at the Lake Wānaka Centre, with a coffee and snack stop along the way.
*Attendees to come along with own bike. Should you not be able to get around on a bike, we will put you in a group driven by guides in electric vehicles lent by the team from the EV Owners Club.
