    Event description

What does a sustainable community look like? We don't need to look into the distant future to see what is already being done right here, and now. This guided day bus tour will visit a number of locations around Tāhuna (Queenstown), visiting people and places who make this town a thriving, sustainable community. Your opportunity to get a first-hand look and experience of what's going on already. Stops include:

Royal Burn - Re-pioneering farming - Michelle Wallis from Royalburn will take us on a tour of the Royalburn farm and market garden and explain their journey to the return of sustainable, energy efficient and regenerative farming. Finish with a visit to the Royalburn shop to see the other end of the supply chain

Whitechapel Reserve Reforestation - a walk around a discussion on why this project is important to the local biodiversity

Compost - Visit to Michael Sly’s composting mecca to discuss the Foodwaste issue and how composting can make us more resilient.

Altitude Brewery - LUNCH. Altitude brewers will take us through their latest brew, a pilsner made with local ingredients, the ultimate locavores beer. Lunch will be provided using locally produced ingredients.

Other stops will include food forest initiatives, local growers showing us how productive smaller areas can be when it comes to growing food, community gardens, wetlands and their significance, the climate change effect to our Central Otago environment
