In this online session we'll get to the basics of solar, batteries and heat pumps, as well as exploring the best energy efficient appliances to consider.

This is event is part of Renew's Sustainable Design 101 series, where we are going back to basics. You can buy tickets to the whole series here.

Join Renew for this introductory session on energy setups for your home. We'll go through the basic considerations of rooftop solar, as well as explaining everything you need to know about batteries. Heat pump hot water systems and appliances will also be discussed, including induction cooktops, LED lighting, and the best ways to heat and cool your home.

Sanctuary Magazine editor Anna Cumming will be hosting the event. Please bring along your questions and comments for the Q&A section of the event.

Speakers

Dean Lombard

Dean is Renew’s Senior Energy Analyst. He’s responsible for policy analysis and advocacy in national and state energy markets, with an emphasis on making the energy system work better for residential consumers while also reducing its environmental impact.

Richard Keech

Richard Keech is an engineer, consultant and author with particular interest in renewable energy and energy efficiency. He has masters degrees in both Engineering (Electronics) and Environment (Energy Efficiency). He was a lead author of the Zero Carbon Australia Buildings Plan, and is a regular contributor to the ATA’s publications on topics related to energy efficiency. Richard lives in Melbourne with his family in their zero-carbon home and is the author of The Energy Freedom Home published by Scribe.

Dr Sarah Fiess

Dr Sarah Fiess is Team Leader of the Sustainable Homes team at Sustainability Victoria. Sarah is an architect by trade and a Certified Passive House Designer. Sarah recently returned to Sustainability Victoria after completing a PhD through Swinburne University which investigated the potential for sustainability transitions through social practice theory research. Sarah currently leads Sustainability Victoria’s 7 Star Homes Program, which works with residential builders to increase industry capacity and capability for delivering energy-efficient homes.
