Event description

Floristry is a problem for the environment. Today the flower industry contributes to mountains of landfill, uses toxic chemicals, and produces tonnes of carbon emissions. This needs to be changed so that the products, practices, and marketing can be carbon neutral, non-toxic, and waste-free, with safe and fair conditions for all working in the industry.

This workshop will show participants how to make more sustainable choices with floral design, considering both flowers and materials. This includes not using floral foam, avoiding single-use plastics, and designing bouquets to feature locally-grown, seasonal flowers and foliage.

Demonstrations will include creating hand-held bouquets and arranging them into a vase.

FACILITATOR

Rita Feldmann is a second-generation florist who has worked extensively in retail and events. She is the Founder of the Sustainable Floristry Network, is a regular contributor to Flowers Magazine, and her work has been featured on ABC’s Gardening Australia.
