Listening Beyond Words: From Voice to Action

We are delighted to welcome back Commissioner for Children and Young People WA, Jacqueline McGowan-Jones, for her third Swan Communities for Children Networking Breakfast.

As her term as Commissioner draws to a close, Jacqueline will present the latest insights from the newly released Speaking Out Survey, sharing what children and young people across Western Australia are telling us about their lives, priorities and aspirations.

Aligned with our event theme, Listening Beyond Words: From Voice to Action, Jacqueline will explore how we can move beyond consultation and truly hear the voices of children and young people, ensuring their experiences and perspectives drive meaningful change in our communities, services and systems.

This is an important opportunity to reflect on how we listen, respond and act to create better outcomes for children and young people across Western Australia.

Meet the Commissioner

Since commencing her role as Commissioner for Children and Young People in January 2022, Jacqueline McGowan-Jones has been a strong advocate for ensuring the voices of Western Australian children and young people are heard, valued and acted upon. Her extensive career spans education, child protection, Indigenous affairs and suicide postvention, with senior executive experience across government and community sectors.

As Commissioner, Jacqueline champions the rights and wellbeing of children and young people, working to elevate their perspectives and experiences in policy, practice and public discourse. She believes that listening to children is only the first step. Real change happens when we genuinely hear what they are telling us and translate those insights into meaningful action.
