NSW House @ SXSW Sydney 2024: Brave New World: Artists Creating at the Boundaries of Music, Performance, Dance and Tech

Event description

Sally Coleman brings together an emerging community of artists whose work is converging at the boundaries of songwriting, performance, dance and interactive technology. This social and knowledge-sharing event is an opportunity for artists and industry to meet and exchange ideas, while Sally will give insight into her own Big Sand project and introduce three other NSW artists in this community to share their work and answer questions.

SXSW Track: Music | Tech & Innovation

Moderator:
Sally Coleman, Creative Director, Big Sand
Sally is a musician, radio personality and the creative director of a new science fiction virtual band called Big Sand. Big Sand is an animated band that sees Sally using motion capture and Unreal Engine to bring the characters to life. Set on a beautiful but harsh desert planet, the project is a playful expedition into the world of emerging technology and different ways of envisioning the future music industry. Sally is undertaking a PhD in motion capture for live music performance at UTS, where she is continuing the research and development of Big Sand’s world-first live show. Big Sand’s live performance (see it at SXSW Sydney!) involves Sally appearing as a real-time avatar to interact with an audience. Sally is also a passionate community-builder, working to connect and collaborate with artists and creative technologists around Australia and the world.
