Sydney Alliance Bankstown Listening & Action for the Common Good
Event description
Between 2011 and 2021 we saw Sydney become a harsher, hotter, less affordable city.
We’ve seen rents, power bills and rates of precarious work go up, while time with family and security-of-work-and-housing go down.
This was not the city we want for our future generations.
This listening is about coming together on housing, climate, energy, cost of living and acting for our communities in Bankstown; now and in the future.
The Sydney Alliance in Canterbury & Bankstown would like to invite you to a morning of round table discussions on Wednesday November 2nd, 10:30am-12:30pm.
Additionally, if you are interested in learning more about the Australian National Imams Council (ANIC) and Islamic traditions, you can join the Sydney Alliance Assistant Organisers for an ‘introduction to ANIC’ at 9:30am. You can opt in during the registration
The community meeting will be hosted at the Australian National Imam’s Council Office with representatives of local civil society organisations including Vinnies, Catholic Archdiocese, ANIC, Australia Bangladesh Press and Media club, Australian Muslim Time and Uniting Church.
The morning will include:
Meeting other members of our community
Sharing our experience of common pressures including cost of living, housing, climate stress & energy bills.
Deliberating on potential next steps for action to see these issues actioned.
Who are we:
The Sydney Alliance is a diverse, non-partisan coalition of community organisations, religious organisations, unions, and schools that uses the tools of community organising for the common good - to make Sydney a more just, fair and sustainable city.
Participating already in the event will be members from the local Muslim and Catholic communities, local community organisations, members of Vinnies NSW in the area and young people from Western Sydney.
