Event description

Youth Climate ChangeMakers Summit

Join us on Youth Day (20 Nov) for a full-day, in-person summit at UTS Sydney, bringing together 100 young people (aged 16–24) who are ready to step up as climate leaders.

The Youth Climate ChangeMakers Summit is part of AlterCOP30, a global counter-summit running in parallel to COP30, creating a direct line for communities and young people to influence climate action and decision-making.

Through a powerful mix of learning, connection, and action, you will:

Level up your leadership – Build the skills, confidence and connections to lead on climate, and share what you learn with your peers and community.

HEAD - Understand the science of the climate crisis with Climate Fresk (IPCC-approved and curriculum-aligned).

HEART - Explore how climate change makes us feel and build resilience with ECOMIND.

HANDS - Unite with other young people to create a Youth Declaration that will be shared with policymakers, decision-makers, and at key forums like COP31 next year.

During the Summit, you'll be connected with pathways to keep you building your impact beyond the Summit, through Climate Fresk facilitator training, Climate Café facilitation, AYCC groups and more.

This event is free and fully catered by OzHarvest. It has been co-designed by young people and researchers from Climate Cares at Imperial College London, ensuring it’s grounded in the latest climate science and youth experience. We’ll also be measuring the event’s impact, so your voice shapes not only the day itself but what comes next.

If you want to be part of Australia’s next generation of climate leaders, and help shape the road to COP31 (if Australia hosts), this is your chance.

About AlterCOP

Co-founded by The Matcha Initiative and The Transmutation Principle, AlterCOP Summits aim to keep corporate and the public informed of COP proceedings and outcomes, facilitate discourse and knowledge learning on corporate sustainability in a localised context, foster collaboration among various actors (professionals, academics, youth, NPOs, community groups, and policymakers) and inspire action.

As Australia prepares to potentially host COP31, we have a unique opportunity and responsibility to open up climate dialogue to all and show that local actions to mitigate and adapt to climate change are already happening across different communities.

Running alongside the United Nations (UN) COP30 agenda, the four-day event will foster grassroots ownership of global climate goals while amplifying local and regional engagement across Australia.
