Today's guests

Megan Lawrence - Australian Museum

Megan Lawrence is an accomplished media arts producer and innovative storyteller, and has led digital product and online content strategy at the Australian Museum (AM) for the past eight years.

As Head of Digital, Megan works collaboratively with subject matter experts, agencies and industry partners on development of digital experiences inspired by the AM's Natural Science, Archive and Cultural collections. Projects at the AM include the redevelopment of the australian.museum website (Winner MAPDA), FrogID citizen science mobile data collection tools for scientific research (Winner Eureka Prize), Digital Twin experiences and AR locative apps (Winner MAPDA) and inspired digital publications to extend AM's exhibition content online.

Previously, Megan worked at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) and later at the ABC as Executive Producer (Digital) on an ARC Research Project with UNSW iCinema, launching the online documentary 'Retrospect: War, Family, Afghanistan’. Her academic roles in media arts production evolved from an early career as a ‘new media artist’ developing virtual reality experiences about environmental issues through art and science collaborations, field work, photomedia and experimentation with emerging technologies.

In this meetup, Megan will share how mapping the AM’s Digital Ecosystem of information pathways across digital channels has informed the strategic development of audience engagement online. This mapping, produced with Meld Studios, has proved valuable over many years by informing design principles for UX and IA of the AM’s website, as well as digital content creation strategy. Most recently, the Digital Ecosystem mapping is being extended with a Digital Restart Fund (DRF) project to develop a new interface to AM collection information online.
