Sydney Global Health Research Symposium
Description
Outline
The Sydney Global Health Research Symposium is a flagship event showcasing the depth, diversity, and impact of global health research across Sydney’s leading universities.
This year’s theme, Pathways from collaboration to impact, focuses on how meaningful partnerships can translate into real-world health outcomes. Expanding beyond a single institution, the Symposium brings together researchers from across the University of Sydney, University of New South Wales and other leading Universities in Sydney - creating a unique platform for cross-institutional collaboration.
The half-day program will feature a keynote address, interactive panel discussions, research spotlights, and facilitated breakout sessions. Together, these sessions will explore how researchers can build effective, ethical collaborations; navigate pathways to impact through implementation, policy, and community engagement; and strengthen partnerships with healthcare consumers and regional stakeholders.
Highlights include:
A keynote on translating collaboration into global health impact
Panel discussions on building meaningful research partnerships and achieving research impact
Short presentations showcasing collaboration with communities and consumers
A dedicated breakout session to cultivate new cross-university collaborations
Structured networking opportunities with peers, senior researchers, and academic leaders
With a strong focus on supporting early- and mid-career researchers (EMCRs) and HDR students, the Symposium offers practical insights into collaboration, research impact, and funding opportunities, while fostering a community grounded in equity, integrity, and reciprocity.
This is a unique opportunity to connect, learn, and advance global health research across Sydney’s academic community.
The Sydney Global Health Research Symposium is jointly hosted by the Sydney Southeast Asia Centre, the Sydney Infectious Disease Institute, and the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney. It will take place on 20 July 2026 at the Camperdown campus.
