WHAT TO EXPECT

The walk from Bare Island Fort to Molineaux Point Lookout is one of those hidden gems that offers a little bit of everything—history, stunning views, and a taste of nature's beauty.

1. Historical Significance
Starting at Bare Island Fort, you'll step back in time. The fort was built in the late 1800s to defend Sydney from potential naval threats and is rich in military history. As you walk around, you'll notice the old cannons and the fort's rugged structure, offering a glimpse into Australia's past. The fort itself is perched on a small island, which is connected to the mainland by a narrow footbridge, creating a dramatic, almost cinematic start to your walk so get those cameras ready.

2. Scenic Coastal Beauty
As you leave Bare Island behind, the path opens up to incredible views of La Perouse Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The coastline here is absolutely breathtaking, with craggy rocks, wind-swept cliffs, and the shimmering blue of the water stretching out before you. You’ll also pass through areas of rock pools—perfect for a quick exploration if you’re into marine life.

3. Nature & Wildlife
The walk is also a fantastic opportunity to experience local flora and fauna. The path meanders through areas of native bushland and coastal heath, and there’s a chance you might spot some local wildlife like birds, lizards, and perhaps even a kangaroo if you're lucky! It’s one of those walks where the environment feels completely alive, and it’s easy to forget you're just minutes away from the bustling city.

4. Molineaux Point Lookout
Finally, as you reach the Molineaux Point Lookout, you’re rewarded with panoramic views that are just spectacular. From here, you’ll have a clear view of Botany Bay, Port Botany, and the entrance to the Kurnell Peninsula. The vantage point offers a perfect spot for taking in the surrounding beauty.

5. A Quiet Escape
What makes the walk so special is that it’s not overly crowded. You get the sense of being away from the usual tourist spots, in a place that feels both wild and serene. It’s peaceful, with only the sound of crashing waves and seabirds for company - Well except for the positive vibes the other social walkers in the community will bring.

It is recommended you bring your bathers as there's a very high chance Dan will be swimming and the water will be beckoning!

All ages and fitness levels are welcome to this event. The walk is mostly flat and on concrete footpaths though there is some distance to cover.

This walk is a real showstopper boasting some of the best views Sydney has to offer!

START TIME AND MEET LOCATION

Meeting Location: La Perouse Monument (Out the front)

Meeting Time: Arrive 10:30am for a strict 10:50am Departure.

WHAT TO BRING

- Water (at least 1-2L)

- Snack food for the hike

- Bathers and towel for a swim

- Money for drink/food afterwards

WHAT TO WEAR

- Comfortable Walking Shoes

- Comfortable Weather Suitable Clothing (check weather on the day).

- Hat / Beanie

FINISH

The Hike should take roughly 5.5 hours with small breaks to enjoy some sightseeing.

This trail is a loop so it will finish back where we started then walk.
