Sydney Youth Jazz Orchestra: A Night In Avalon

A Night In Avalon is a live jazz fundraising evening featuring the Sydney Youth Jazz Orchestra, one of Australia's finest youth big bands, at the beautiful Avalon Bowling Club.

SYJO is a full 19-piece big band of talented young musicians aged 13 to 18, directed by Dr Saul Richardson These are some of the most gifted young jazz musicians in the country, and on this night, they're coming to Avalon.

Expect a high-energy evening of big band jazz that will get you on your feet, in a relaxed and welcoming setting with the Avalon Bowling Club's fully licensed bar. Whether you're a jazz lover or just love a great night out with amazing live music and dancing, this is an evening for everyone.

Why this night matters

This is a fundraising event in support of SYJO's first ever international tour to Japan in January 2027. The band will perform at the JAJE Student Jazz Festival in Kawasaki alongside Japanese student jazz bands, at the legendary Yokohama Minato-Mirai concert hall, and most meaningfully, at the Hanshin and Tohoku Earthquake Memorial Concert in Kobe, at the personal invitation of renowned Japanese jazz pianist Mr Kousuke Kanaya. It is a profound honour for these young Australian musicians.
