Vale Dr Sylvia Walton AO 1941 - 2024

The Tintern community is saddened with the news of the passing of former Principal (1982 – 2005) Dr Sylvia Walton AO.
A committed educator and visionary leader, Sylvia recognised the importance of individual student needs, a support structure and culture that continues at Tintern today.
A determination to make girls’ education more equitable, innovative and progressive, and her vision in founding Southwood Boys’ Grammar opening in 1999, are just two of her legacies we will remember and thank her for here at Tintern.

Sylvia also contributed greatly to the wider education community and we will celebrate her contribution as Principal of independent schools, Vice Chancellor of Latrobe University and membership of a number of educational boards.

We send our deepest condolences to her family and remember her with enormous respect for her contribution to the Tintern Grammar community and broader educational community.
