Symphony In A Day: Tchaikovsky's Pathetique
Event description
After the success of The Beethoven 7 Symphony In A Day, the Bluestone Ensemble returns with Tchaikovsky's beautifully tragic 6th symphony, rehearsing almost entirely in a single day, apart from a short read-through the day before.
Tchaikovsky's final symphony was his proudest achievement, communicated often through his letters to his family members. Labelled as 'pathetique' (translating to passionate or emotional) takes the orchestra and its listeners on a rollercoaster of emotions, from boisterous pride, constrained joy to painful despair.
He had succumbed to cholera only some days after he premiered the symphony, so was this symphony something of a personal musical requiem? This sourced great controversy for many years.
This concert is in collaboration with the Victorian Youth Symphony Orchestra and will be a great showcase of the talent in Melbourne's community music scene.
