Forces of Nature

Join Symphoria for an exhilarating evening of music that captures nature in all its beauty, drama and untamed power.

The concert begins with the brilliant sound of four solo horns in Carl Hübler’s Concerto for Four Horns and Orchestra. Rich in warmth, energy and heroic character, this rarely heard work showcases the remarkable range and colour of the horn.

Violinist Harmony Chen then takes centre stage for Vivaldi’s Winter (L’Inverno) from The Four Seasons. From biting winds and trembling cold to cracking ice and the warmth of a fireside, Vivaldi transforms the season into one of classical music’s most vivid and recognisable soundscapes.

The program culminates in Louise Farrenc’s magnificent Symphony No. 3 in G minor. Powerful, passionate and beautifully crafted, this remarkable work combines the dramatic intensity of Beethoven with the lyricism and colour of the early Romantic era. Farrenc’s distinctive orchestral voice, overlooked for far too long, makes this symphony a true force of nature.

Led by Artistic Director and conductor David Deacon, Symphoria brings together accomplished St Peters Old Scholar string musicians with guest wind and brass players to form a full symphony orchestra for this special performance.
