Event description
Radio Announcer Training invites new SYN members to the SYN space for a session on creating and presenting content.Â
How is the Radio Announcer Training structured?
This is a day split into two parts.Â
There are also a small number of online modules to be completed autonomously outside of the trainer-led session. These will be sent to you ahead of your training.Â
From 10am to 1:30pm we cover information about SYN Media, media law and preparation techniques for live radio. There is some group work within this session, where new volunteers come up with content ideas together and present them as a demo radio show. It is suggested you come prepared with some topic ideas (anything you like - this is a magazine style show) and a basic level of research done for this section.Â
Your work in this part of the training will form an episode of Fresh Air - SYNs staple show for new voices. You can listen back to your episode when it airs the following Saturday at 12-2pm.
The second half of the day is split into two sessions of Studio Training. These run from 1:30-3pm and 3:15-4:45pm. You will be assigned to one of the two session times. Please note these times could change or fluctuate due to circumstances out of our control. Studio Training is where you will learn how to operate the panel and go live in the SYN Studios. This is a compulsory part of the training and is a requirement if you want to volunteer at SYN after your induction.Â
IMPORTANT: Before booking please confirm you are able to attend the entire day of training from 10-4:45pm. If you can only attend the first half of the training you will need to book another Studio Training session which is a $50 fee.Â
What can I do at SYN after I complete Radio Announcer Training?
You're now able to broadcast live and create radio content at SYN! After your training you will be assigned to one of SYNs Flagship shows. You can have a read through the shows we broadcast here. Your trainer will explain in the session how SYNs Radio Grid is structured and the opportunities available to you within our station.Â
I can only make it to one half of the training, should IÂ still book a spot?
Please don't book yourself in for the Radio Announcer Training unless you can absolutely make the entire training day. If you miss any section of the day you will incur an extra fee for Studio Training outside of the original timeslot ($50)Â or you may have to rebook entirely. We will announce new training dates periodically throughout the year and at least a month or two in advance - keep an eye on our Instagram (@synmedia) or email community@syn.org.au to be added to the waitlist.Â
IÂ am over 25 years of age, can I volunteer at SYN?
PLEASE NOTE: SYN is a youth media organisation. To become a member and volunteer at SYN, you must be aged between 12-25.
I have more questions!Â
No worries! Email community@syn.org.au and we will get back to you as soon as we can - we are a small team of staff who get a lot of emails a day :)Â
