Sync Launch
Description
SYNC is an intimate offering, an invitation to visit outer and inner landscapes of life and being. The poems address a convergence of psychological, ecological and social issues confronting us today.
Most were written in the course of the last three years, some go back across seven years, some ten.
They were selected to form an arc reflecting the author’s observations and engagements at this time
of turbulence and dystopia.
The poems are arranged like a musical score in six movements, including an overture and a coda.
Each part is a phase in a journey. The recurring musical crotchet and the photographic image at the beginning of each movement speak of a need for contemplation, a pause to reconnect and set our compass.
Jepke is a performer, poet, director, writer, teacher and cultural activist whose work spans more than five
decades. She writes poetry for a range of environments and art forms. For the theatre, as dramatic text or song.
For the printed page, as private reading. For the streets and commons, to recite at public gatherings. And as
starting point for video art.
Some of the poems in SYNC became video works, through Jepke’s creative partnership, “Cultural Intifada”,
with visual artist Markela Panagyres. These have been shown at events and exhibitions in Sydney, Geelong, Melbourne and Brisbane. The latest one will premiere in Port Adelaide this November at the group exhibition “The Art of Dissent”. At least one of the video-poems will be screened at the launch of SYNC.
