Sun, 24 Aug, 1:30pm - 3:30pm AEST

Event description

The Waste Land, T.S. Eliot's early and seminal Modernist masterwork, turned 100 in 2022. Despite being enormously well known, it remains an enigma to many readers, a kaleidoscopic mix of allusions spoken in numerous voices.

At this event, the poem will be incanted by three readers as, arguably, Eliot originally intended.

A talk by local resident and writer Toby Sime will follow, outlining the poem's historical background, its original reception and its contested current critical status.
