Saraswati Mahavidhyalaya presents, TAAL TARANG - an evening of Hindustani dance and music.
Join us for a cultural spectacle with internationally acclaimed artists, Siva Kumar on the Tabla and Rohini Shetty in Kathak, who will be accompanied by Sarangi maestro, Sri Sangeet Mishra.
Siva Kumar is an upcoming tabla virtuoso based in Perth. Having honed his skills under the tutelage of Sri Nawaz Mirajkar, he has been active in the Perth arts scene for the past 7 years.
Sangeet Mishra has learnt music from his father, Pandit Santosh Mishra, and represents the 8th generation of Sarangi masters in his renowned musical family. He is no stranger to playing with India’s finest artists, and has rose to prominence in the international music scene.
Born into a lineage of dancers, Rohini Umesh Shetty started her dance journey under the tutelage of Sri Umesh Shetty and her Kathak guru Dhanya Thurairajah. She then had the opportunity to receive direct guidance under the late legendary Kathak maestro, Pandit Birju Maharaj.
The first half will begin with a Tabla solo by Siva Kumar who will be accompanied by Sangeet Mishra on Sarangi, followed by a 20 minute intermission. We will resume the program with Rohini Shetty in Kathak, accompanied by Sangeet Mishra on Sarangi, Lalit Kumar on the Pakawaj and Aswin V Ramarao on Sitar. Food will be available for sale during the intermission.
