Event description
This is a community-led, accessible civics event for our neurodivergent and/or disabled takatāpui/rainbow whānau in Kirikiriroa - designed and run by us, for us.
Bring your friends (or make some new connections) while enjoying some FREE KAI and kōrero with our local queer candidates. We are offering a sensory-friendly, welcoming, and accessible space for our queer community to come together - one where racist and/or transphobic rhetoric will not be tolerated and masks are encouraged (if practicable).
Our purpose here is to help remove barriers and tautoko your participation in the local elections through education, and utilising the disability justice practice of mutual aid coordination to provide support with logistics and registration.
If you want to have your say but you're struggling to find the time/motivation to get involved; have limited mobility; or you just have minimal knowledge around how local elections work/why they are important - the plan is to connect you with the information and/or voting support buddy who can help. Queer allies within the community who want to come along to help out (even if you've already voted) are warmly encouraged do so!
EVERY VOTE COUNTS - there’s a lot at stake this time round with the referendum on M`āori Wards being on the ballot too. We want to make sure you have the support you need so that your voice can be heard.
Please RSVP promptly for catering purposes and to help us keep the event safe. He pātai? Direct them to Rachel at whakamana.aniwaniwa@gmail.com.
