MATE: Become a Confident Bystander

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

Want to be someone who does something? Support yourself and others to identify and respond to problematic behaviours. This is a prevention workshop to address attitudes that drive gender-based violence, and actions we can all take to change culture.

Join Jo McNamara, a specialist in sexual harm, in this free 3-hour workshop aiming to empower students as MATE bystanders (Motivating Action Toward Empowerment). A bystander takes proactive steps to prevent, intervene or help when inappropriate behaviour occurs. Options and safety will be a key consideration in this training, and examples will cover scenarios from everyday sexism through to unwelcome touch and social events involving alcohol. A free light lunch will be provided.

This training can be counted towards the Adelaide Graduate Award | University of Adelaide.

Content warning: The course covers important information for everyone, regardless of gender, sexuality, or existing knowledge on the topic. It contains discussion about relationships, dating, and sex. There will be mention of sexual harassment and sexual assault, including definitions and some examples of these behaviours. For more information, please contact Joanne McNamara joanne.mcnamara@adelaide.edu.au.

If you register for this training and are subsequently unable to attend for whatever reason, please cancel your registration to allow for other students to join.
