Event description

The National Association of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Practitioners are holding a screening of Deadly Heart Healthy Heart on the 6th August 2022.

This screening is to support the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Practitioners celebrating their National Day of Recognition on the 7th August.

As part of this celebration NAATSIHWP are inviting the community to join them for a lunch and screening. This will be held at Minjungbal Museum & Cultural Centre.

Take Heart Deadly Heart is a film-led advocacy campaign putting Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) in Australia's history books. In Australia we are losing two young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to RHD weekly. Rheumatic Heart Disease causes permanent damage to the heart. It results from a throat or skin infection caused by Strep A bacteria and if not managed properly, it can lead to heart failure, disability and premature death. It is also entirely preventable.

Can't think of a better way to celebrate our Aboriginal Health Workers and Practitioners than with some curry and rice thrown in with some education and advocacy.
