With council elections on the horizon, it's time to delve into how we can strengthen democracy in local government. Led by MC Paul Scott, former UoN lecturer in Public Affairs, and Newcastle Herald columnist, the event features insightful talks by esteemed speakers. Amanda Findley, twice popularly elected mayor of Shoalhaven Council, will discuss "Local Government – Are You Listening? Making Local Democracy Work." Ross Kerridge, a Long Term Community Advocate, will examine "Why Do Good People in Government Make Bad Decisions?" Christiane Berlioz will address "How Not to Solve the Housing Crisis: State Government Plans to Override Community Planning," while Ian McKenzie, a Prominent Advocate & Adviser on Urban Forest Planning, will offer solutions for "Saving Newcastle’s Western Forests from Urban Sprawl."
