Career Progression Workshop: Take Initiative, Build Confidence and Step Up at Work

Want to progress at work, take on more responsibility and show that you’re ready for the next step? This practical career progression and professional development workshop is designed for people who want to build confidence at work, take more initiative, improve their workplace communication skills and demonstrate that they are ready for greater responsibility.

You might feel ready to step up, but your manager hasn’t quite recognised it yet.

Or perhaps you’ve been given an opportunity to take on more responsibility and want to make sure you handle it well.

This interactive training session combines real senior leadership experience with professional actors and realistic workplace roleplay, giving you the chance to practise the conversations, judgement and behaviours that can make a real difference to your career progression.

You’ll develop practical skills in taking initiative, managing up, communicating with senior colleagues, contributing confidently in meetings and building stronger working relationships.

You’ll learn how to:

  1. Take initiative at work with confidence - understand when to act independently, when to ask for support and when to escalate.

  2. Show good judgement and readiness for more responsibility - demonstrate that you can make decisions, solve problems and take ownership without overstepping.

  3. Challenge “we’ve always done it this way” constructively - suggest improvements without creating unnecessary change, conflict or friction.

  4. Use benchmarking and external insight to generate better ideas - learn from other organisations, build your professional network and find new sources of inspiration.

  5. Build stronger workplace relationships - work more effectively with colleagues, managers, senior leaders and people across different teams.

  6. Communicate confidently in meetings and difficult conversations - practise responding when you are interrupted, challenged, put on the spot, asked an unexpected question or told no.

  7. Manage up more effectively - understand what your manager needs from you, communicate clearly and make it easier for them to trust you with greater responsibility.

This workshop is particularly useful for early-mid career professionals, aspiring managers, emerging leaders and anyone preparing for promotion or greater responsibility at work.

This isn’t about becoming louder, more corporate or pretending you know everything. It’s about developing the confidence, judgement, communication skills and professional credibility that help people progress at work.
