Tales of the wind - Uyghur poetry night
Event description
Uyghur people are being persecuted in their homeland of East Turkestan, their culture and language is being supressed.
Yet their evocative, powerful poetry continues to be written and recited by Uyghur people around the world, including here in Sydney.
Join us for an intimate evening of poetry, music and conversation that includes:
- A panel discussion with internationally recognised poets and translators about Uyghur poetry today including; Ahmatjan Osman (Canada) Josh Freeman (Taiwan), Mamtimin Ala (Sydney) andFatimah Sayyah (Sydney)
- Poetry readings in both English and Uyghur
- A performance of Uyghur dancing
- Delicious Uyghur food supplied by
6-9pm The Turkish Cultural Centre, 33 Gelibolu Pde, Auburn - 100 metres from Auburn station
Tickets - $30 for individuals, $60 for families - includes dinner from Great Silk Road restaurant in Ashfield
We are fundraising for The World Uyghur Writers Union who publish in Uyghur and plan to create a website in English.
