Talk: Coventry Noir with Angus Nivison 

What is abstract art? What is the point of it? Many people struggle to find an appreciation for and understanding of abstract art. They wonder how it is that a mess of shapes and colours has been praised and applauded by so many. Where is the tangible meaning? Where is the technical skill? My grandchild could paint that. It's just a black rectangle.

These are some questions and comments that we have heard people express while viewing the Coventry Noir exhibition. We think it is a discussion worth having, so we have invited artist Angus Nivison, who is an abstract artist and who began his career showing with Coventry Galley, to share with us his insight into the work of Coventry Noir, to discus the artists in the exhibition and to talk about the man who amassed this unique collection, Chandler Coventry.
