Talk to them Training for Youth Workers - September 2025
Event description
Dates: 9th and 10th of September from 9:30am-4:30pm
Location: The Youth Coalition of the ACT (46 Clianthus Street, O'Connor)
Talk to Them training was developed in the ACT for youth workers and other professionals working with young people who may be impacted by domestic and family violence (DFV).
During the training, we will equip you with the necessary knowledge and confidence to Understand, Recognise, and Respond to DFV in your work with young people, then safely Refer them to specialist DFV services, and continue to support them to navigate the specialist DFV support system.
At the completion of this training, you should be able to understand:
• the dynamics of DFV
• how young people experience DFV
• how DFV impacts young people
• how to recognise DFV in the lives of young people
• the importance of responding to disclosures of DFV by young people in a trauma-informed manner that prioritises the safety of the young person and their family
• the need for ongoing open conversation with young people and their support network after a disclosure has been made
• the supports, services, and referral options available to workers supporting a young person with an experience of DFV.
Please note this training is in person.
The Talk to them Training package has been updated in July 2025 to reflect evolving understandings and contexts around DFV. Previous participants will be provided with updated information, and do not need to attend the full two day training again.
Other dates open to registration for the training are:
27th and 28th August
1st and 2nd October (school holidays)
