Event description

Guenther takes us inside his new work for solo violin, and its inspiration in the writings of Roman emperor and philosopher Marcus Aurelius. He examines why we are still reading from Aurelius, and explores how Aurelius’ work calls most modern leadership into question, and shares his own behind-the-scenes process of the translation of spiritual wisdom into form through these intense musical sketches for violin.

Rupert Guenther is a Vienna-trained concert violinist-composer. He specialises in site-specific performances of extended improvisations which contemplate our connection with the natural world, the night sky, events in history, the sciences, ancient texts and civilisations, current affairs and the humanities.

Rupert’s interest is how we as artists can embody spiritual wisdom into form to bring personal transformation through our art, and through our living, into the world. He has performed his concerts of inspired site-specific improvisations at The Guildhall Festival, The Museum of London Docklands, Tate Britain, Bombora House NYC, Wesak Festival Mt Shasta USA,Sydney Opera House, Melbourne Recital Centre, and many venues throughout Austria,Italy, Sweden and Wales. In his earlier career as sideman to the stars he held positions inthe Vienna Chamber Opera, and played with Beatles producer Sir George Martin, OliviaNewton-John, Greek europop superstar Demis Roussos, Anthony Warlow, John Farnham and Hollywood singer-songwriter Lisbeth Scott.
