Talking dirty soil health workshop - Parkes

Join Central West Local Land Services for a hands-on session with research scientist and field practitioner Dr. Aurelie Quade, whose work sits at the intersection of soil science, farm systems, and applied ecology.

Event details:

Participants can expect practical, easy-to-understand concepts that are simple to remember and apply. We'll explore soil samples from different farming systems, compare what we see in the field, and encourage plenty of discussion to help turn ideas into clear, actionable outcomes.

Come and get your hands dirty with us!

What the day will cover:

• The 4 pillars: biology, structure, chemistry, management.

• Key indicators: observe, score, and record in the field.

• Field assessment of 2 soils using indicator cards.

• Identify drivers: soil type, cover, traffic, inputs.

RSVP: Monday 12 October 2026

Additional details:

• The event will have catered morning tea and lunch – please list dietary requirements at checkout.

BYO: You are welcome to bring your own soil sample for analysis. It needs to be a 15 x 20 cm block in a tub, undisturbed so we can smell, look at the colour, and examine the root distribution.
