Leadership development is broken......and we need a fix it quickly!
Our first Talking Point for 2025 is a hard hitting look under the bonnet of current leadership development practices. It’s a warts and all examination of why leadership development is broken, and what fit-for-the-future (i.e. 2025 and beyond) leadership development must consider, and do differently.
What we’ll be examining:
- WHY we think it's broken (and what the research says) and why that matters
- WHAT forces are influencing the need for a radical rethink
- HOW might we re-engineer our approaches?

Drew Downie
Drew served as a Logistics Officer in the Royal Australian Navy for eight years before moving into senior roles with large organisations including KPMG, ANZ Bank, Aus Post, CGU, Telstra, and GE Capital to name several. Drew returned to full-time service with the Navy in 2016 and has successfully led organisational design, transformation and workforce continuous improvement functions during that time. Drew ceased full time service February 2025 but is currently an active reservist.
Luke Darcy
Luke is the co-founder of Aleda Connect, an organisation that aims to inspire connections and work with leaders across a diverse range of industry sectors including sport, education, media, social ventures and the arts. Luke has a vision to create empowering leaders who engage in reflective practice and provide their teams with collaborative learning environments. Luke’s early career was forged in an elite sporting environment as an AFL player, and then more recently through an extended and highly successful media career.
