Event description

A 60-Minute Live Workshop

Date: April 2
Time: 12 Noon, Auckland time
Format: Live Google Meet workshop
Registration closes: 11 am, April 2 (Auckland time)

Why This Workshop Exists

You care about your teen's well-being, hate media messaging about bodies, and worry you're seeing red flags in your kid.

But you don't know how to talk to them. Not really. Not in a way that will be helpful and they will actually listen.

You're not alone. I've had an uptick in consultations with parents who are worried about their teens.

The Problem

  • Our teens are compelled to fit in. Many want to be active, look good, and eat right. They also probably love fast food high in fat and sugar.
  • We've come to believe that it's our job to make sure our kids are well-educated about healthy food and if they don't eat well, we've failed.
  • We know the dangers of diet culture and body image struggles, so we also want our teens to love their bodies - and if they don't, we start to get really worried.

Firstly — you are not a failure and it's not your fault this is happening!

In this workshop, I'll show you how you can talk to your teen about food and bodies and help them take care of themselves well.

Without knowing this process, supporting your teen growing up in diet culture is a bit like trying to get dressed with a blindfold on.

This Workshop Is For You If...

  • You want your teen to have a kind internal narrative about their body
  • You want your teen to grow up and be able to take good care of themselves
  • You want your teen to be able to see themselves in a photo or mirror without it ruining their mood - and same with trying on new clothes
  • You want your teen to be diet-culture-proofed so they don't experience their body like you did

What You'll Learn

Compassion

How to see that it makes sense your teen is acting the way they are (even if their behaviour seems dangerous or completely bonkers)

Emotion

How to manage yourself when you feel like you're failing them, everyone is judging you, and your teen's behaviour is terrifying you

Action

The specific steps to take so teens will actually listen to what you have to say

What You Can Expect

  • Less worry: When you have a process to talk about food and bodies, you'll have more confidence in your parenting
  • Better conversations: When you respond to them powerfully, they will naturally start listening and sharing more
  • A way forward: Understand the steps to take to heal your relationship with body and food (for yourself or your teen)

This workshop will help you help your teen see their eating habits and body image in a different light, increasing the whole family's well-being.

  • The meeting is 60 minutes and will not be recorded
