Event description

Tamborine Mountain Arts Collective Gathering  - Money Matters - Art IS a real job!

This is a FREE event
Vonda Youngman Centre, Knoll Road, Tamborine Mountain Tues, March 21st Time: 6 (for 6:30) till 9pm

The Gatherings are monthly events held by the Tamborine Mountain Arts Collective to grow participation, skills, networks and opportunities for the arts and culture of Tamborine Mountain.  Each month a different subject is explored, and participants are encouraged to contribute to shaping the future of the arts collective and creative industries on Tamborine Mountain.

Money Matters - Art IS a real job!

Join us to find out about new pay rates for artists, how to navigate the funding maze and ways to raise funds for arts projects.

In March we look at rates of pay for artists, fundraising and navigation through the funding maze.

Why is it that artists struggle to be properly paid? How do we raise the profile of what we do and ask for fair rates of pay?

How funding opportunities help us to get more organised and how to work out which ones work best for us.

How can we unpack funding leading up to cultural programs and opportunities linked to the Olympic Games in 2032 and to non-arts funding and sponsor opportunities?

These questions and more will be explored in our In Conversation discussion.

In conversation for the March Gathering on Money Matters, we welcome Penelope Benton Executive Director National Association for the Visual Arts via Zoom from Sydney. Currently living on Gadigal land, she is also an artist with a collaborative practice working across sculpture, performance, and installation, and recently became a mum. She has worked previously as the Manager of Arc @ UNSW Art & Design, General Manager of the College of Fine Arts Students' Association and was Co-Artistic Director of Art Month Sydney 2013. Penelope was a co-Director at Firstdraft 2007 - 2008 and a Co-Founder/Director of The Red Rattler, an artist and activist-run performance space in Sydney's inner west 2008-2013.

She has a Bachelor of Arts (Visual Arts) from the University of Newcastle, Masters in Art Administration from UNSW, Graduate Diploma in Arts Management from UTS, and completed a Masters of Fine Arts at UNSW in 2017.

Karleen Gwinner PHD - artist, author, academic, now working for the Regional Arts Service Network - Southeast Region. Her work has been at the nexus of art and health, bringing insight to issues that impact public mental health, child and youth development, and socio-cultural action. She is also an author and specialist with Strategic Grants

After the discussion and Q & A, you are invited to have your say on the who, what, when, where, how and why of Money Matters for artists.

The evening kicks off at 6 pm.  Bring a plate to share, come along, bring a friend and meet new people and be part of shaping our community.
