The Tamil Safe Space is holding an open night at our new location at 58 Toongabbie Road, Toongabbie.

We welcome all community members and organisations to attend that are interested in finding out what supports it offers for Tamil community members in psychological distress.

Come meet our volunteers, inspect the venue and try out the many mindfulness activities that we have on offer.

Join us for a FREE DINNER as we continue the conversations around how we can work together to support those in our community experiencing mental distress, suicidal thoughts and loneliness.

What is the Tamil Safe Space?
The Tamil Safe Space offers a free drop-in environment for Tamil community members
facing emotional distress or suicidal crisis where they can receive support from trained
Tamil peer support volunteers. The space aims to offer individuals in distress an alternative
to emergency departments, providing non-clinical and culturally safe support to help
alleviate their distress.

The peer support volunteers at the Tamil Safe Space come from the local Tamil
community and have their own lived experience of suicide. Their training, combined
with this lived experience, will foster an environment of mutual understanding. The goal
is to empower visitors of the space to realise that there is a path through their current
challenges with empathy, compassion, safety, and confidentiality.

The space is non-clinical, therefore volunteers will not provide medication or diagnosis,
but will be guided by the needs of visitors. Visitors can choose to chat with a volunteer
over tea, or simply sit in the space while engaging in mindfulness activities and accessing
available health information and resources.

While the Space is primarily aimed at supporting the Tamil community, it is open to
anyone in distress seeking support regardless of background. We invite everyone in our
community who is struggling to utilize this welcoming space. Our goal is for you to leave
feeling safer and more supported.

The Tamil Safe Space is open every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month from 6-9PM at

58 Toongabbie Road, Toongabbie, NSW.
