Tantric Dance Essence Jam
Description
***IMPORTANT:
Our upcoming Jam will be held in a private space in Ivanhoe, hosted by one of our dancers.
Please arrive on time: we’ll open the space together at 2 pm, so please join us from the beginning rather than dropping in later.
The Jam is for those who have attended a Tantric Dance workshop and learnt the foundations of the practice. Previous dance experience isn’t a substitute.
If you haven’t attended a workshop yet, please don’t book — your tickets will be cancelled.
How about a little Tantric Dance Jam? ✨
The sun is shining, spring is in the air, and we’re ready to dance again! Come join us for our next Tantric Dance Jam — an afternoon of dance, connection, and magic under the sun.
Our community is alive and growing — and so are our Tantric Dance skills! If you’ve attended one or more Tantric Dance workshops at Thornbury Hall, you’re warmly invited to join a Jam: a relaxed, playful space to practise what we’ve learnt, share food and chats, connect more deeply, and continue growing this beautiful community together.
☆ Updates ☆
This time, the Jam will be held in a new space in Ivanhoe, hosted by two of our wonderful dancers, Stephen and Rohini. Tantric Dance Essence is co-created by each of you and your energy. If you’d like to host a future Jam at your home, let us know!
Going forward, I’d also love to bring a little more intentionality and structure into our Jams. While the dance itself remains free-flowing, I invite everyone to arrive on time so we can open the space together and have plenty of time to dance. Rather than dropping in at different times throughout the afternoon, I’d love for us to settle in together, and begin the Jam as a group.
I’ll also be creating a little outdoor altar, and invite each of you to bring a small piece of nature to contribute — something that holds your intention for the Jam and honours your connection with the earth. 🌿
The Flow:
2:00 pm — Opening circle, chats & mingling
3:00 pm — Short embodiment
3:15–5:30 pm — Jam space
5:30 pm — Closing circle
6:00 pm — End of Jam
This will be an outdoor, picnic-style gathering with shade, blankets, and plenty of space to mingle and dance. Blindfolds will be provided. Please bring a small plate to share so we can enjoy a yummy, nourishing picnic feast together!
***Please note: This is not a guided workshop — it’s a free-flow, self-led dance space for those who have attended at least one Tantric Dance workshop. As this is an outdoor event, it may need to be moved indoors or rescheduled in case of rain.
Contribution: $15
A small contribution helps make the Jams sustainable and supports the time, energy and care that goes into creating and holding these gatherings.
Address: Ivanhoe (Melbourne), address provided on your ticket
Parking: Free on-street parking available
Alcohol: This is a sober, conscious space — please come clear and present.
Please bring:
Nature to offer on the altar
Snacks and drinks to share
Water bottle
Comfortable shoes (we’ll be dancing on grass)
Hat or sunscreen
Looking forward to jamming, connecting, and celebrating Tantric Dance community with you!

✧ DEEPENING YOUR PRACTICE ✧
Tantric Dance Jam is an opportunity to ask questions and check where you are in your tantric dance practice. I’ll be offering open 1:1 guidance for anyone who’d like support with specific aspects of their dance.
I invite you to gently reflect on the themes below. If any of them resonate, this is a beautiful chance to explore them more deeply, allowing your dance to become more fluid, connected, and embodied.
You’re welcome to bring questions around these topics—or anything else you’re curious about—to the next Tantric Dance Jam. I’ll be there to support you and guide you along the way.
Followers:
· I struggle with letting go or leaning on my partner, and I tense my body up
· I find it challenging to follow and release control, and I end up trying to lead the movement
· When I follow, I let go completely, becoming floppy and losing my balance
· I’m blocked in my expression — I follow passively without fully enjoying the dance
· I have trouble with attunement and sensing where my partner wants to take me
· I’m quite heavy and cautious in my dance, afraid of the unknown and feeling unsafe
· I often dissociate and feel like the dance is happening to me, not with me
· I anticipate the leader’s moves instead of waiting to feel the lead
· I have difficulty signaling my boundaries in the dance when something feels uncomfortable
· I overthink the movement instead of sensing and responding
· I feel frustration or resentment when I don’t feel clearly led
· I give my power away instead of consciously choosing to surrender
· I move only from my head and arms and disconnect from my hips, pelvis, or feet
· I find it hard to stay present when the connection becomes intimate or charged
· I feel dependent on the leader to create the whole experience instead of being an active, listening presence
Leaders:
· I catch myself focusing too much on my partner or trying to please them, rather than dancing for myself from my center
· I tend to get in my head, focusing on performance rather than authentic expression
· I don’t fully trust myself to hold space for the follower, allowing them to surrender fully in my arms
· I often doubt or judge myself in the dance, being overly careful with my movements and direction instead of fully stepping into my masculine power
· I struggle to embrace intimacy or sensuality in the dance out of fear of pushing someone’s boundaries
· I get frustrated when my follower doesn’t follow, and I try to force the movements I want
· I seem to stay in constant motion and struggle to embrace moments of stillness or slowness
· I repeat the same movements and find it hard to experiment or express creativity in my dance
· I find it hard to attune to my partner and tend to move them around without truly feeling them
· I take it personally or feel rejected when my partner needs a break or doesn’t seem to be enjoying the dance
· I’m afraid to fully express myself, worrying that I’ll be too much or that my dance won’t be well received
· I feel lost when my partner doesn’t follow and I’m unsure how to respond
· I question whether my energy in close proximity feels safe and comfortable for others
✧ GUIDELINES ✧
· Come with a clear mind. No alcohol, drugs, or heavy medication.
· Avoid strong scents like perfume, cigarettes or other intense odours.
· Embrace the dance as a journey of self-exploration and growth.
· Welcome blockages with compassion, curiosity and playfulness.
· Listen to your body and its limits, take a break if needed.
· Dance is always with clothes on.
· No touching of intimate body parts. No kissing.
· Avoid movements that may feel invasive or overly sexual
· Practice self-responsibility and protect your boundaries at all times.
· Respect each other’s space and boundaries.
· There might be photography during the event
✧ TANTRIC DANCE ESSENCE ✧
Tantric Dance Essence is a space devoted to sharing the art of tantric dance, creating spaces for embodied expression, authentic connection, and exploration of polarity through movement.
Tantric dance is a conscious dance practice where one person leads the dance, while the other—blindfolded—surrenders into the experience. The leader embodies the masculine energy (Shiva), holding space, guiding the movement with presence, clarity, and intention. The one who receives moves with the qualities of the feminine energy (Shakti)—fluid, receptive, intuitive, and open to surrender. This dance becomes a playful, powerful interaction between the masculine and feminine energies—a sacred meeting that transcends duality and invites deeper truth, within yourself and in connection with others.
We all carry both masculine and feminine energies within us, and finding balance between them is key to living a fulfilling, empowered life. This is the principle of inner union—masculine and feminine, yin and yang. Tantric Dance invites us to explore and embody these polarities through movement—to give and receive, lead and surrender, and to dance with the ever-unfolding flow of life. It helps us connect to our own essence by guiding us beyond the mind and into the body, where we can feel, express, and embody the truth that lives within us.
