Come along for an afternoon of traditional music, dancing and family fun, bringing together families, teachers, friends and the wider Taobh na Pàirce community.

We’re raising funds towards improvements to the Bun-sgoil Taobh na Pàirce playground — so come along, have a dance and help us make the playground a little brighter for the children.

🐣 Cèilidh Bheag — Wee Tots Ceilidh

4.30–5.00pm

A gentle first ceilidh for babies, toddlers and younger children, giving our smallest dancers a chance to enjoy the music, movement and atmosphere before the main event.

🎻 Am Prìomh-Cèilidh — Main Family Ceilidh

5.00–6.30pm

A lively, caller-led family ceilidh with live traditional music, suitable for children and adults of all ages.

No previous dancing experience needed — just come along and join in!

Pay what you can

Every ticket helps cover the cost of putting on the event, with all proceeds after costs going towards improvements to the Bun-sgoil Taobh na Pàirce playground.

🌱 Why we’re doing it

The playground is part of children’s everyday school life. This ceilidh is a chance for the school community to come together, enjoy some fantastic music and dancing, and make a practical contribution towards creating a better space for the children.

Accessibility / family information

Is the ceilidh suitable for young children?

Yes. The afternoon begins with a 30-minute Cèilidh Bheag for babies, toddlers and younger children, followed by the main family ceilidh.

Do I need to know how to ceilidh dance?

No! The dancing is caller-led, so you’ll be shown what to do.

Can adults contribute more?

Absolutely. The £20 suggested contribution is there for anyone who would like to make a larger contribution towards the playground.

What food will there be?

There will be simple snacks and treats, alongside tea, coffee and drinks. If additional food is donated before the event, we may add to what’s available on the day.

Meet the people behind the ceilidh

Cèilidh Raon-Cluiche has grown out of the school community, bringing together a brilliant bunch of parents, musicians and teachers — all with children at Taobh na Pàirce. On the music side we have Sarah Moore, Jo Milroy and Jed Milroy of Tinderbox, and Tom Oakes. With tunes between sets by A. B. Habibi.

Sarah is a Principal Teacher of Expressive Arts at the school, as well as an accomplished fiddle player, teacher and performer. She has been immersed in Scottish traditional music for many years, playing with bands including Bella McNab’s Dance Band. Jo and Jed bring their experience of Tinderbox, with Jed playing a leading role in its community music and youth work. Tom Oakes is an Edinburgh-based multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer and sound designer, whose work ranges across Scottish, Irish, Nordic and contemporary music. A. B Habibi is DJ and master tune smith.

And then there’s Oliver Mezger, a parent and long-serving PSA at the school, who is pulling the whole thing together and hosting the afternoon.
