Tap Teacher Training - Short Course with Tommy J Egan
Description
Practical training, professional development and resources for tap teachers.
This short course has been designed to offer tap teachers across Australia an opportunity to develop their teaching practice through a combination of class, lectures and a short discussion.
I'll be sharing knowledge gained over 20 years of teaching, my extensive experience training for stage and screen, and what I've gleaned from studying with some of the best tap teachers in the world.
Take-home resources
Following the course, you'll receive a Dropbox link containing:
Video of the warm-up material.
Videos of centre steps and time steps.
Videos of the progressions.
PDF copies of the lecture material.
These resources are designed to give you something to revisit and refer to as you continue developing your teaching practice.
The course is designed to be practical, accessible and, importantly, to encourage your own self-direction when you return to the classroom.
I also want to open the floor to teachers to share their experiences, discuss the challenges they face, explore what works (and what doesn't), and work together to find solutions.
Who is this course for?
Experienced teachers
There will be plenty to take away, including physical exercises, steps, progressions and new approaches to familiar material. We'll explore more advanced concepts such as syncopation and swing, discuss challenges you may be experiencing in your classes, and provide an opportunity to affirm, refine or expand on teaching practices you already have in place.
New teachers
If you're relatively new to teaching, or preparing to take your first class, this course will help you build a foundation to work from. Further more I want you to leave the room feeling confident for your next class. Through the warm-up material, centre steps, progressions and lectures, you'll leave with a structure and practical material you can take straight into your classes.
More importantly, you'll have the beginnings of a framework that can continue to develop as you gain experience as a teacher.

Attendance
575 Pacific HWY, St Leonard's (or zoom) Evolution PC
Attendance numbers will be capped. While events of this nature can attract huge amount of participants, I want to keep this course small enough to offer meaningful individual feedback and advice. The aim isn't simply to reach as many teachers as possible, but to make sure each person gets something genuinely useful. I want you to leave full, confident and uplifted.
Attend in person or via Zoom
The course will be available both in person and online via Zoom.
For Zoom participants: I'll have an assistant dedicated to the online audience for the entire day. Their role will be to help facilitate questions, keep online participants involved in discussions and ensure the technology runs smoothly. I suggest attending on zoom in a studio or with a little tap board.
To bring: Tap shoes, water, notebooks, pens or computer. Note that there are food options nearby but you could also bring food to have in the waiting room or the park. The venue has a beautiful timber floor and floor to ceiling wrapped windows and aircon.
If you have any questions, or there are particular areas of teaching you'd like me to address, please get in touch. I'm very happy to hear your suggestions.
And importantly, this will be a fun day! An opportunity to get together, share ideas, work on our craft and enjoy talking about tap!
