Taranaki Climbing Meet 2025
Event description
The NZAC Taranaki Section are proud to host the 2025 edition of the Taranaki Climbing Meet. Dust off your trad rack, load up your packs, and come join us in climbing at the North Island's premier adventure climbing destination.
When: 14th to 16th of March 2025.
Where: Manganui Lodge - located at the Manganui Ski Field on Mt Taranaki.
Access: Park at the Stratford Plateau car park - located at the end of Pembroke Road Rd off SH 3. The lodge is a short 30 minute walk from the carpark. The walk is made even easier with the recent construction of the spectacular Manganui Gorge Bridge. Please wear appropriate footwear and bring a torch if you are arriving after dark.
The Plan:
Meet at the Manganui
Lodge on Friday evening from 7:00pm. Climb, hike, or scramble Saturday and Sunday. Enjoy a shared catered dinner on Saturday evening!
There are plenty of options available for all climbing ability levels. Trad climbing at Warwicks Castle, Little Eiger or the Organ Pipes. Scramble to the summit via East Ridge. Plan your own adventure, or join one of the friendly locals on their favourite climbs.

Gear: Attendees must bring:
- A sleeping bag + pillow slip
- Adequate clothing for the weekend.
- Your own climbing / hiking gear for the objectives / activity you intend to do.
- Your own food for breakfasts, lunches and snacks.
- Your favorite beverage for Saturday night.
The Manganui Lodge in a serviced lodge and includes:
- Bunk beds with pillows.
- Kitchen includes fridges and ovens.
- Plates, cups, cutlery, etc.
Cost: Fees are as follows:
- Full Event - Friday and Saturday night accomodation and including fully subsidized catered meal
- $50 for NZAC members.
- $70 for non members.
- Saturday Night Only -
- $25 (accomodation) + $15 (Meal) for NZAC members.
- $35 (accomodation) + $15 (Meal) for non members
Accomodation is free for NZAC life members and members under 16. The total cost covers accommodation and dinner on Saturday night as described. Please inlcude any dietary requirements upon registration and we will do our best to accomodate. We may be unable to cater to specialist diets so please bring any specific food you require.
Registrations after the 8th March may not include a catered meal - due to caterers booking
requirements.
Get in quick to confirm your spot. Please note this event is non-refundable as we are committed to the costs incurred.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a climbing meet not an organised climbing trip with a specified objective. Please attend the meet with your own specific objectives in mind and feel free to make plans, which are within your ability, with others that are attending the meet. There will be no formal instruction at this meet. Please note that club members are not available to act as a guide. You must be able to make independent decisions. This Meet is not for absolute beginners, unless you have an experienced person with you that is willing to assist you. The intentions register located in the common area is to be completed before you leave for your adventures each day and signed off when you return.
