Event description
Tasmanian Whisky Week is coming to launch in Melbourne!
Tasmanian Whisky Week (TWW) is a celebration of the numerous Tasmanian distilleries, their spirits and whisky. Seven days of events held in the north and south of the state covering diverse and engaging events. Over 40 distilleries attending events over 15 events, culminating in the flagship event, The Tasmanian Spirit Showcase at PW1, Hobart on Saturday, 12 August.
To celebrate, Tasmania is coming to Melbourne to launch the event with a four course whisky matched dinner at Pure South Dining, Southbank.
Pure South Dining has forged a reputation for offering stunning produce from King Island, Flinders Island and Tasmania since 2004. They choose products that have been farmed in an ethical manner using methods that nourish the animals and the environment. Their ethos is ethical, sustainable and provenance. It was a natural fit to hold our TWW launch at Pure South Dining.
The experience - A four-course whisky matched dinner, with two glasses of wine and 4 x whisky expressions.
The distillers – Damian and Madeleine Mackey from Hunter Island Whisky, Rocky Caccavo from Hobart Whisky, Justin Farmer from Whisky in Isolation and Suzy Brett from Spring Bay Distillery will be pouring their drams and telling you their story.
Hunter Island Whisky - Hunter Island Batch #3 Bourbon/Port Cask - Created from a mixed grain mash bill of malted barley, unmalted barley and oats, triple distilled in copper, and matured in the first- fill EuO Portuguese Port and AO Jack Daniels, this is a perfect autumnal whisky. A warm fruity nose, creamy-sweet and viscous on the palate, nutty, grassy notes with a lingering spicy finish., Matured in first-fill European ex-Portuguese Port and American Oak ex-Jack Daniels, triple distilled. 48% abv
Whisky in Isolation – Nearly New York Sour (Spirit Thief Distilling Co)
For our first release, we have turned the cocktail on its head. Three French Oak Shiraz casks, which were part of an internal experimentation to look at the differences between oak and wine varietals across a set of casks, have been married together as our base. With 3 summers of maturation behind them, they were transferred to a 120 litre Bourbon barrel, which previously held Buffalo Trace, to finish the whisky for a further 12 months. 53% abv, 120 bottles
Hobart Whisky – Signatures
A marriage of carefully selected American oak ex-bourbon casks.
A satisfying light ex-bourbon cask single malt that delights with a solid malty foundation, some gentle spice and a long, complex finish. On the palate expect marzipan icing with hints of vanilla bean over malty and clean oak foundations. Fizzy sherbet overtones lend this classic bourbon cask dram a lovely zing and brightness. A long and clean finish with a lingering semi-sweet sherbet fizz with hints of almond providing a very pleasant semi- dry conclusion. 46.1% abv
