Aotearoa New Zealand Climate Standards

Event description

Jacqueline Cheyne, Board Member of the XRB and chair of the Project Steering Group for climate risk reporting will discuss the proposed New Zealand Climate Related Disclosures regime for Climate Reporting Entities (CREs). These standards are due to come into effect in 2023 and are hoped to drive behaviour changes by investors and the companies they invest in, through shining a light on climate related risks and opportunities facing companies, and about how these companies are thinking strategically about transitioning towards a low emissions economy.

Amongst the first mandatory reporting frameworks in the world, the proposed New Zealand climate reporting standards are based on the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate Related Disclosures (TFCD). They draw on the proposals from the newly established International Sustainability Standards Board.

Jackie will provide an overview of:

  • Who the standards apply to;
  • What they cover; and
  • How the introduction of the standards is intended to drive behaviour change, both through improving a CRE’s understanding of its climate risks and opportunities and in the provision of information for providers of capital to assess the relative risk of their investments

Who is this for? People interested in the developing reporting requirements in NZ on climate risk, company directors and investors.
