Description

Every day, HB welcomes curious and aspiring actors into our studio space to explore the boundaries of their talent. At this series of four free masterclasses led by HB teaching artists, we invite first-time performers to experience what our classroom has to offer. Join us at our First floor Studio in 120 Bank Street and at our 124 Bank Street Theatre space for workshops on the topics of Voice, Speech, Movement, and Clowning with HB Teaching Artists. Please plan to be at HB at least 20 minutes before the respective 11 am and 1 pm class times so that you can claim a seat, put your bags down, and be ready to get started!

11 am & 1 pm - Intro to the Alexander Technique with HB Teaching Artist Martha Bernard. The Alexander Technique is a gentle method through which you gradually learn to free yourself from unconscious physical habits that limit your ease, versatility, and freedom. Posture and self-use become conscious and volitional, not habitual and rigid. This translates to a greater possibility of fully embodying characters whose physical life is different from your own while maintaining healthy use of your body.

11 am & 1 pm - Intro to Speaking Voice with HB Teaching Artist Craig MacArthur Dolezel. HB Studio's voice classes employ the destructuring and restructuring processes of Fitzmaurice Voicework®, as devised by Catherine Fitzmaurice. You explore your body’s relationship to healthy vocal production, vocal freedom, and unrestricted connection to sound and emotion. As these skills increase, you build a flexible and sturdy foundation from which to handle a variety of vocal patterns and accents, increasing your range and capability on stage.
