How payment plans work

  • Your order will be reserved but sent to you only after the full payment plan has been completed.
  • A minimum upfront payment is required to secure your order. This includes a surcharge, a non-refundable cancellation fee, and a refundable deposit.
  • You’ll receive a notification before each payment attempt. You must ensure sufficient funds are available.

Event description

The Diabetes NZ Tauranga and Waiariki Youth family camp is for young people with diabetes from the Bay of Plenty and Waiariki area and their families.

Remaining availability

We still have TWO motel rooms that will fit two people left (one parent and one child).

We also have lodge rooms available. Lodge rooms each have their own sink, with a common bathroom area. Lodges also have a common lounge attached to relax in. please contact Lena Fendley for more information.

Approximately 25 families attend, with children teenagers of all ages. While parts of the weekend are planned with activities, there will be plenty of time for relaxing and getting to know other families.

Camp runs from Friday evening until Sunday early afternoon. You will need to organise your own dinner on Friday night, all other meals and snacks are provided including Gluten Free, Diary Free, Egg Free and Vegetarian meals.

Accommodation for two nights in a motel style room with bathroom is free for the Type 1 child or adolescent and one parent. Cost for remaining family members (including GST) as follow:

  • 2nd parent/caregiver $140
  • Sibling age 0-4 Free
  • Sibling age 5-10 $57
  • Sibling age 11-14 $108
  • Sibling age 15+ $140

Paid tickets are subject to a small booking fee which is entirely directed to charitable education projects.

Once we have confirmed numbers at Totara Springs Christian Centre, we are committed to pay for these numbers. Please see cancellation policy below.

Registrations close on 28th February 2021, or when spaces are full. Previously we have had more than 80 people at camp. Early registration will secure a space for your family for this fantastic weekend. rooms are allocated on a first in, first served basis and are often full before our registrations close. We will send out more information once registration is completed.

If any of your family have food allergies OR any special food or health requirements apart from diabetes please explain when completing registration.

Code of Conduct

Camp T&Cs

Totara Springs is a Christian-run camp and behaviour is to be appropriate.

  • Speed limit around camp is 15 kph - we are growing children. vehicles are not to leave the grounds between the hours of 12.30am – 5.30am.
  • Alcohol is not permitted on site.
  • Illegal drugs, firearms, animals, chewing gum, are not permitted on-site at all. If you have a guest with a peanut allergy, our recommendation is to make these not permitted within your group also.
  • In accordance with our fire safety regulations and insurance policies, there is no smoking in any buildings.
  • Please be aware of our onsite staff plus other guests and be quiet between 11.00pm and 7.00am, no excessive noise after 9.30pm.
  • We expect our facility will be left as you found it. Removal of flora and fauna is not allowed.
  • Due to the sensitive nature of our smoke detectors, we ask that campers do not use body spray in any rooms as this can activate the sensors.
  • There is no lifeguard on duty at the pool. Parents, please supervise your children.
  • No fires to be lit unless specific permission has been obtained from Totara Springs.
  • No moving of beds or mattresses in rooms.
  • The camp organizer undertakes that all children in their group at Totara Springs will be properly supervised by their parents or guardians at all times.
  • For those in Lodges and Motels linen (where booked) will be placed on beds for School, Standard & Premium groups
  • If you wish to go for a walk outside camp, it is advised that you wear hi-viz clothing. This is a farm road and as such trucks and tractors as well as farm vehicles use it on a regular basis.

Diabetes management

Please note that families are responsible for their own health and welfare including the management of their diabetes. All food will be available, including snacks, but please bring all your insulin, testing gear and and hypo treatments.

Covid-19

Camp will only run under Alert Level 1. If camp is cancelled due to a change in Alert Level, full refunds will be given and a postponement date will be determined if appropriate.
