Tauranga Green Thinks - Spring Edition
Event description
Come join our Coffee Kōrero!
08:00- 09:00, Thursday October 16th
90 Devonport Road - Ground Level (next to Florence Cafe)
The Kōpūrererua River is one of the main watercourses that passes through Tauranga, with a 7400 ha catchment area that connects two ecologically and culturally significant areas, Ōtanewainuku forest and Waikareao Estuary - ki uta ki tai. Like a lot of streams in NZ the Kōpūrererua River has been subject to historical straightening and modification as well as draining and grazing of the adjacent wetlands. This has led to a decline in the health and well being of the awa itself, as well as the Waikareao Estuary. Come join us to hear about the renaturalisation of the Kōpūrererua River, the expected environmental benefits, and the trials and tribulations of undertaking such a project in one of Tauranga’s wettest years on record.
Be part of the conversation that aims to shape sustainable and resilient futures for our communities.
We can’t wait to see you there!
