Tauranga Tech Futures: Priority One Members

New Zealand Techweek 2022 is coming May 16-22.

To kick off the start of Techweek22 here in Tauranga, we are celebrating the opening of the University of Waikato’s new Blue/Green Tech Lab in Tauranga, continuing our region’s development as a leading destination for AgriTech in New Zealand.

The Blue/Green Tech Lab focusses on horticulture and aquaculture and will provide local access to University capability across cutting edge technologies such as automation, robotics, artificial intelligence, augmented reality and biotechnology. It is another step on our collaborative journey as a region toward creating a high value, inclusive and sustainable economy, and establishing Tauranga as a global destination for innovation.

Priority One and the University of Waikato welcome you to join in celebrating the opening of the Lab, and to take the opportunity to reconnect after our long Covid enforced break. Refreshments will be provided, and plenty of time for networking. We’ll also be giving an update on regional developments in tech and talent and previewing the events to come during Techweek.

The event will be expo style, with lots of technology and machinery to see and interact with. We look forward to seeing you there!

    WHEN: 4:00 - 6:00PM | MONDAY 16TH MAY
WHERE: UNIVERSITY OF WAIKATO, BLUE/GREEN TECH LAB | 2 NEWTON STREET, MOUNT MAUNGANUI

Please feel free to forward this invite to others in your organisation. However, space is limited so to guarantee your place, please confirm your attendance by Monday 9th May.

    About the Blue/Green Tech Lab

The University of Waikato’s Blue/Green Tech Lab is New Zealand’s first university R&D lab focussed wholly on engineering and technology for the primary industries.

The Lab is being established in Mount Maunganui, with University of Waikato staff and students working on projects with local companies involving automation, robotics, artificial intelligence and biotechnology applied to horticulture and marine sectors and environments.

The Blue/Green Tech Lab continues the University’s development in Tauranga and the Western Bay, combining with the CBD campus, and specialised facilities such as the Coastal Marine Field Station (Sulphur Point) and Adams Centre for High Performance Sport, to demonstrate growing investment and activity in support of community and industry in the region.

The Blue/Green theme incorporates both the primary focus of the Lab – that is horticulture and aquaculture – but also the relationships between these industries, and between land and water environments more generally, that is a feature of our region. Tauranga Moana is a place where land meets sea; the interdisciplinary research and development work in the Lab reflects this, and from this distinctive focus we see the opportunity, with collaborators, to grow a globally competitive technology capability to support local industry.
