Topic: Home Economics: What Catholic Social Teaching has to say on creating an economy for the home and the family
The past five years have been a period of economic stress and uncertainty. As inflation continues to bite, and as housing prices threaten to price a generation out of the housing market, Catholics might ask themselves what light their religious tradition might be able to shine on the situation. What, in other words, can the Catholic Church have to say about the economy? The answer is quite a lot. From the purpose of money to the rights and responsibilities of ownership, the Church’s social teaching offers very timely (and perhaps provocative) wisdom on creating a just economy. Come along to learn and be challenged about what a Christian economics might offer for Australia in 2025.

About Dawson Society
The Christopher Dawson Society for Philosophy and Culture was founded in 2012 and formally incorporated in Perth, Western Australia in 2013. It is a not-for-profit association named in honour of Christopher Dawson the great English historian of the 20th century who throughout his work saw the world of spiritual belief “as the dynamic element in history and as a real world-transforming power.” Drawing inspiration from the thought of Christopher Dawson, the Society was founded to promote cultural and philosophic activities that recognise the spiritual, as well as the material, element in our nature and in society more broadly. It is hoped that in this way the Dawson Society may uphold and continue the work of its namesake.
