Te Anau Tartan Festival - Have-A-Go Highland Games

Here's your chance to have a go at Highland Games. This family-friendly day out compromises four modified highland games events - the Sheaf Toss, Caber Toss, Rock Carry and Farmer's Walk. Unlike previous years, the events will be held at specific times so you will need to arrive early so as not to miss an event. The first events run between 9.30am and 11.30am and there won't be another chance to try them if you don't take part in the designated time slot. You must attempt all four events to be eligible for the have-a-go championship.

The competition is held in the following sections:
* Veteran Men (60 years+)
* Veteran Women (60 years+)
* Senior Men (18 years+)
* Senior Women (18 years+)
* Junior Men (13-17 years)
* Junior Women (13-17 years)
* Boys (7-12 years)
* Girls (7-12 years)

Challenge trophies are awarded for the overall winners in each section.

We also have a special highland games field for those aged 6 and under where every participant will get a special Highland Heavyweight certificate.

How about getting a team together to contest the mighty tug-o-war? Enter a team of five or sign up as an individual and be assigned to a team on the day.

Dress for the occasion and be in to win our "Well Plaid" award for the best tartan-themed outfit - you don't even have to enter the highland games to enter that one! 

This is also the place where local businesses can enter themselves in our competition to reward the best tartan-themed business premises.
