Te Ara Ako: AI & Te Ao Maori // Exploring Artificial Intelligence and Māori Data Sovereignty

🗓 Wed 22nd July, 2026 | ⏰ 6pm –8pm |🏠 Online - Zoom

This month, we're bringing together technology and te ao Māori for an evening of practical learning, whakaaro, and kōrero about Artificial Intelligence (AI) introduction and Maori data sovereignty.

Join us as our speakers explore what AI is, how it's already being used in everyday life, and the practical opportunities it presents for marae and community organisations. We'll also take a closer look at Māori Data Sovereignty, exploring the opportunities, considerations, and challenges that emerging technologies bring from a Māori perspective.

Together we'll explore:

🤖 An introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI)
⚖️ Opportunities and risks of AI
🌿 Māori Data Sovereignty and the importance of protecting our data, governance, and Tino Rangatiratanga

Following the presentations, there will be time for questions, discussion, and shared whakaaro, creating space for everyone to learn together, ask pātai, and consider how these rapidly evolving technologies may shape the future of our communities.

Whether you're completely new to AI or already curious about its potential, this session is designed to be practical, accessible, and relevant for everyone.

Nau mai, haere mai — bring your pātai, your whakaaro, and your curiosity.
