Te Ara Ako: Our Voice I Our Vote

Te Ara Ako: Our Voice I Our Vote

🗓 Wed 26th August, 2026 | ⏰ 6pm –8pm |🏠 Online - Zoom

Join us for this free Te Ara Ako online session as we explore why voting matters, the changing electoral landscape, and why it's important for Māori to understand the process and have our voices heard.

Our guest speakers will share insights into:

• Why civic participation matters and how every voice can make a difference.

• What whānau need to know about New Zealand's electoral system.

• The important role marae can play in encouraging informed participation within their communities.

• Insights from marae that have hosted voting services, including lessons learned, what worked well, and key considerations for marae interested in becoming future voting hubs.

We'll be joined by Riana Te Ngahue from Kawea Law & Consultancy who will share her whakaaro on the significance of voting, civic participation, and understanding the electoral landscape, along with Georgie Thompson from Ruapōtaka Marae, sharing firsthand experiences of being a marae voting hub and what that journey looked like.

This is a non-partisan session designed to inform, empower and encourage meaningful participation. We won't be discussing political parties or who to vote for. Instead, we'll create a space for learning, asking questions, and exploring how we can strengthen participation within our communities.

Nau mai, haere mai. Whether you're voting for the first time, looking to better understand the process, or interested in how marae can support whānau during election time, we'd love to have you join us.
