Join NAWIC Wellington members on a tour of Te Ara Tupua, SH2, linking Wellington to the Lower Hutt.

He kaitiaki ki te whenua, a guardian to the land

Te Ara Tupua is an exciting project which will establish a pedestrian and cycling pathway, enhancing transportation resilience between Wellington and Lower Hutt. Its objective is to provide a secure, interconnected route, encouraging more individuals to walk or bike and facilitating connections with local pathways in both Wellington and the Hutt Valley.

Currently, progress is evident along the resilient coastal edge, crucial for safeguarding the road and rail infrastructure, as the armoured wall extends along SH2. Four construction sites are operating at full capacity. Out of the required 6,700 x-shaped units to construct the new coastal edge, 1,195 units have been installed. Additionally, a massive approx. 20,000 tonnes of rock have already been positioned in place.

COST: FREE to NAWIC members, this event is limited to 20 people. Anyone is welcome to join NAWIC here.

While we believe this will be an extremely popular event, if there are spaces left the week before the tour we open up paid tickets for non-members.

BRING: Work boots, long sleeves longs trousers (no shorts / skirts), *hard hat – with chin strap, *hi – viz top, *safety glasses (* The host can supply with advance notice)
