Experience the school holidays at Te Papa!
Our full-day school holiday programmes continue in July with four days having limited spots available for children aged 8-12.
This holiday programme offers children a chance to experience the museum with experts and spend the day in Hīnātore, Te Papa’s state-of-the-art learning lab alongside our experienced educators, where they will be able to participate in a range of engaging activities and creation, from Stop-motion to Game development, robotics, coding and more.

Who is this programme for?
This programme is a learning-focused full-day school holiday programme for 8-12 year old children. Children who are interested in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Maths), have a natural curiosity and enjoy creativity and learning new skills will enjoy this programme. This programme is developed specifically for this age-range.
Where and when does the programme take place?
Hīnātore is Te Papa's state-of-the-art Learning Lab. It is a closed space, not normally open to the public, on Level 4 of the museum. During the term time, it is used by some school groups for educational programmes and is well equipped with its own kitchen area and secure entrance.
The drop-off time for each day is 9:00-9:20am at the Te Papa main entrance. Last pickup is by 5:00pm from Level 4. Children must physically be signed in and out by a nominated caregiver.
Who will be running the programme?
Te Papa educators will be running the programme under the supervision of a Te Papa Learning Specialist who is a registered teacher. All staff involved in the programme have completed "Core" Children's Worker Safety Checks.
Is each day different / can children attend multiple days?
There are different activities each day, with a similar structure to the day. An activity within the museum and a Hinatore theme is included each day, as well as an offsite lunch at a nearby park. Children are welcome to attend an individual day or several days, there is a discount for a multi-day pass.
Can you accommodate children with additional needs?
Our staff teach school groups across the whole year, and have experience working with a range of needs in children. Please ensure you contact us to discuss specific inquiries or needs. This is a drop-off programme and caregivers are unable to remain during the day.
What does my child need to bring?
Please ensure your child has a suitable packed morning-tea and lunch, as well as a drink bottle and sunhat each day. Your child must be signed in by a parent or nominated caregiver.
